Mundu, an integral part of Kerala Culture
The Mundu, a garment worn around the waist in Kerala, is white or cream in colour and generally woven in cotton. Today, two types of mundu are widely used — the single and the double. While a single mundu is draped once around the waist, the double is folded in half before draping. A mundu normally has Kara, a comparatively thicker cloth woven into it near the border. For ceremonial occasions such as weddings, a mundu with a golden embroidery known as kasavu is often used.
